Takes Spoken Word to the Next Level

Los Angeles, CA  - The euphonious sounds of a drum snare, high hat, bass lick, guitar drum, muted horn, and much more can be heard over and under the sexy soothing voice of one of the brightest songstress, spoken word artist and lyricist on the scene today, AMBOKILe' !  A stunning combination of sensual spirituality, AMBOKILe' has been announced, by promoter Kevin Rouse as the the featured artist hosting the spoken work sessions at "Live on Wilshire" at the Opus every Wednesday night.

AMBOKILe'  (pronounced "Am-boe-key-lay"  and meaning God Has Redeemed Me,)  takes us on a spiritually conscious journey through a world seen by the eyes, felt by the heart, and contemplated by the mind of a "woman of expansion."  Her flow is seamless, touching on everything from life, love, relationships, intellectual and spiritual enlightenment, and the evolution and revolution of the mind, body and soul.  

On each her soul searching "cerebral trips" AMBOKILe' uses a sultry smooth, introspective style to move visual words and clever rhymes over a canvas of melodious liquid beats and well placed instrumentation.

Her intricately passionate lyrics paint a vividly fresh picture of the life, times and the world of one of the most exciting new voices in the spoken word movement.

A Double Dose of Blues

Bobby Rush is a flamboyant soul-blues artist that has come full circle from rural Louisiana, through the mean streets of Chicago, to the Southern musical mecca of Jackson, Mississippi. A dynamic showman with a unique sound that mixes the natural soul of vintage R&B with traditional Chicago blues and strutting 1970s-styled funk, Rush's booty-shaking "snake dancers" and frequent costume changes have helped make his live shows popular with club and festival audiences alike.

Bobby Rush received recognition for his music after the release of his 22nd album "Rush" when he was awarded "Best Male Soul Blues Artist" at the Blues Music Awards. He also received "Best Acoustic Artist" and "best acoustic album" for his album "Raw". His most recent CD 'Look At What You Gettin' sees a return to a more modern style blues that he is closely associated with.

Mel Waiters hails from San Antonio, Texas where he cut his musical teeth in the church. Like most singers of his caliber, he describes in song what it's like to find love, keeping it and losing it too. He puts his feelings on the line to show his audience, which is predominently female, that he is not afraid to tell the truth, or of what it is like to be in love with a good woman, a bad woman or both.

Mel Waiters' has a smooth voice with a Southern twist, and his message drives home the message that with him around, everything will be alright. His ballads can move even the most stonehearted. He has chocolate brown skin that covers an attracive physique. He's a man born to sing the blues with a rhythm and blues loop. John Singeleton Directs Vin Diesel in "The Wheelman"

Vin Diesel has signed on to star as an expert driver in action movie The Wheelman. That'd be so far, so predictable - this is, after all, the star of the Fast & Furious franchise and a guy who eats action movies for dinner - but what's strange about this one is that Diesel already voiced the main character for the game on which this film is based.

Meta, right? Except that, of course, the property was intended to be both game and movie from the get-go back in 2006, and Diesel - secretly a big game player when he's not crushing walnuts on his biceps or whatever - was a producer on the game as well as playing the main character (that's "play" in the Hollywood sense, although we're sure he's played it too).

The film's storyline casts Diesel as an expert driver who comes out of retirement to protect a woman from his past. Rich Wilkes, of xXx: State of the Union, wrote the script, with Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell doing a rewrite, and it's all set to be directed by John Singleton, who's connected to another Diesel franchise having directed 2 Fast 2 Furious (the one Diesel wasn't in).

REMEMBERING J.D. HAWKINS

The Entertainment Industry will surely miss you!

"Wounded Hearts" was J.D.'s first full-length feature from his own production company called Hawk In Flight Productions. This film won the Audience prize at the 2002 Memphis Black Writers' Conference and Southern Film Festival and was the opening night film for the Houston Multicultural Independent Film Festival. He was a consulting producer for the film "Barbershop Blues" starring Charlie Robinson and Ralph Tresvant. J.D. directed the short film "For Better Or Worse" which was runner up for the Good Morning America "Whole Lotta Love" contest. His second full length film "Street Tales of Terror", a horror anthology that won best feature and best actor at the Motor City International Film Festival and second place at the Denver International World Independent Film Festival. The film won Director's Choice at Horrordance in February of 2005. J.D.'s most recent films are "Visions" a short film about the aftermath of a high school shooting and "Peril" a seven-minute short about a nature walker who finds something in the woods.
